Farmers markets return to UDC and Sheridan School

April 17, 2021

New Morning Farm market and the UDC Van Ness farmers market are both opening for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 1st.

Also back for the season: the markets’ social distancing rules and mandatory mask wearing. The New Morning Farm market at Sheridan School (36th Street and Alton Place) will be taking online preorders again as well.

“The veggies are growing fast!” wrote New Morning head farmer Jenni Glenister in an email newsletter. “I think the lettuce doubled in size this last week. We’re starting to hear encouraging updates from our neighbor growers. Spring plantings are doing well, and everyone is optimistic!”

The UDC market will return to the plaza outside the student center (4200 Connecticut Avenue), along with at least eleven of the 2020 vendors, some newcomers, and the 2020 market’s student manager, Meagan Miller. This will be her last season running the market, as she is graduating this year. Though Miller faced many challenges in getting the market up and running in the pandemic last year, she told Forest Hills Connection that she enjoyed the work and is happy to come back.

“I missed the people. I like working with the community and community organizing,” Miller said.

These are the eleven returning UDC market vendors that had applied as of last week.
