The last time we checked in with neighbor and award-winning filmmaker Aviva Kempner, her latest documentary was still a work in progress.
Not any more. The Rosenwald Schools premieres Wednesday, February 25th at the Avalon Theatre as part of the Washington Jewish Film Festival. Tickets are available for purchase here.
Rosenwald is a feature-length historical documentary about how Chicago businessman Julius Rosenwald joined with southern African-American communities during the Jim Crow years to build schools – thousands of them. In doing so, he became “the greatest philanthropist you’ve never heard of.”
Kempner is also aiming for a spring theatrical release of the film. You’ll find more information and updates at rosenwaldschoolsfilm.org.
