Small and local businesses have been gearing up for the holidays, and so have our area Main Streets, with events designed to bring people to their commercial corridors for shopping and dining.
Van Ness Main Street’s 8th annual Holiday Pop-Up market is Saturday, December 2nd. Shop 30 local vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy a Singing Capital Chorus show from 1 to 2 p.m., and take part in a scavenger hunt.
(Also, VNMS still needs volunteers to work the welcome desk and otherwise help the event run smoothly. You can sign up here. And while the shifts listed on the VNMS volunteer form are three hours, any time commitment is welcome. Under “Other,” simply note the hours you can help out.)
Other area winter markets:
- The Cleveland Park Main Street winter market is also on December 2nd, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Chevy Chase Main Street’s Spark! winter market is on Saturday, December 9th from 1 to 5 p.m.
- Tenleytown Main Street’s winter market is Wednesday, December 13th from 5 to 10 p.m.
These three Main Streets are also taking part in a DC-wide holiday lights show – with audience participation elements. By December 7th, vote for your favorite displays in each participating Main Street, and through January 7th, you can win prizes in a scavenger hunt. Learn more on the DC Holiday Lights pages for Cleveland Park, Chevy Chase and Tenleytown.
And, on Saturday, December 16th, channel the Jolly Old Elf within (and without, if you have the Santa garb) for Cleveland Park Main Street’s Santa bar crawl and fundraiser. The bar crawl will hit four of the neighborhood’s watering holes and raise money to support the organization’s efforts to aid local business owners.
Forest Hills Connection is an editorially independent program of Van Ness Main Street.
