A Metropolitan Police Department officer who has become a familiar face at ANC 3F meetings and has worked closely with Van Ness apartment building residents has moved on to a new job at MPD headquarters.
Second District Lieutenant Stephen Amodeo emailed ANC commissioners and other community members on Sunday, June 12th, to inform them of his job change. Amodeo was the manager of 2D’s Public Service Area 203, which is bordered to the south by Macomb Street and to the north by Nebraska Avenue and Military Road. This PSA includes Van Ness and several apartment buildings that have seen an increase in violent incidents in recent years.
“I thoroughly enjoyed our partnership during my time here,” Amodeo wrote. “It has been a true pleasure to be involved in this community. I am sure that will be continued with my successor.”
His email prompted an outpouring of praise and thanks from community members who said he had been a calm and reliable presence, and provided a valuable service to renters and tenants association leaders.
Taking Amodeo’s place as 2D PSA 203 manager is MPD Lieutenant Bredet Williams ([email protected]). She has served as a DC police officer for 23 years, working in patrol, special operations, community relations, and other units.
Williams was assigned to the Second District in 2019. In a June 19th email, she invited community members to fill her in on their areas of concern.
“I would also like to make some inroads with our various apartment building managers and owners to begin to make an attempt to address the growing crime trends within these residential buildings,” she wrote. “We have a strong commitment to making the Second District a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.”
