Neighborhood in the News: Van Ness sniper victim thanks hospital staff; Support for a free UDC social work degree; Historic farmhouse for sale

He may have saved children’s lives. GW Hospital saved his. Antonio Harris, the Burke School security officer who was shot by the Van Ness sniper on April 22nd while directing students to go back inside, was hospitalized for three and a half weeks. He returned to George Washington University Hospital six months later to thank the staff. (WUSA9)

One way to ease a shortage of mental health professionals. The University of the District of Columbia is in the process of adding a new master’s degree in social work. There’s support on the DC Council for making it a free program. (Washington Business Journal, WTOP, WJLA7)
