Peirce Mill is open for visitors again, and it needs volunteers

Peirce Mill volunteer Adam Sieminski explains how the mill works.

Peirce Mill is open again after a winter break. And the group that formed to restore the mill and support its educational functions is seeking volunteers for this season – and beyond.

Friends of Peirce Mill will hold two special tours this month for prospective volunteers, the first this Saturday, April 11th at 1 p.m., and the second on April 25th at 11 a.m. To register, email Tish Kilpatrick at grandaunt@starpower.net.

But you don’t have to go on one of these tours to become a volunteer. You are welcome to sign up any time between now and the end of the season in October. Volunteers staff the visitors center and lead tours at the mill. Some even get to assist the miller! Find more details and sign up at nps.gov/pimi/getinvolved/volunteer. (Read our profile of Adam Sieminski, a neighbor and mill enthusiast.)

And did we mention the mill is open again? Visit Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through October 31st. And you can see the mill in action from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

Peirce Mill is located at 2401 Tilden Street, and online at nps.gov/pimi and peircemill-friends.org.
