Clanging, belching, jack-hammering. During the work week, these sounds greet hikers and cyclists approaching the trails and bike routes at Beach Drive and Broad Branch Road.

It’s week 4 of Beach Drive reconstruction Phase 2. Two bridges are getting a makeover.

And though Beach Drive is closed to all vehicle, bike and foot traffic between Tilden Street and Joyce Road, this past Sunday the occasional walker and cyclist ignored the signage and barriers.

This sign, at Joyce Road, hasn’t been much of a deterrent to hikers and cyclists.

Whether on foot or on a bike, beware coming off the Soapstone trail at Broad Branch. Although cars are barred from this section of Broad Branch Road, cyclists can come through that stretch at considerable speed.
