If all goes as Pepco promises tonight, another 500 or so Forest Hills neighbors will have a happy 4th of July indeed. Pepco expected to restore power to the area north of Brandywine 11 p.m. (It’s pictured on the third map below, in yellow.) That would leave less than 50 Forest Hills residents without power, down from more than 1200 as of Sunday night.
The power outage is on the agenda of the Monday, July 9th meeting of ANC 3F. Our commissioners will vote on a resolution to support requiring Pepco to bury power lines underground. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Capital Memorial Church at 3150 Chesapeake Street.
The executive director of Northwest Neighbors Village is thanking the “Bad Weather Buddies” who went out to check on elderly members after Friday night’s storm. Marianna Blagburn says NNV volunteers did more than visit or call, “they opened windows for those without air conditioners, brought ice and transistor radios to make our seniors more comfortable, and checked on cats and dogs.”
Blagburn points out that the NNV volunteers are more than that – they are our neighbors. If you think you could be a neighbor’s bad weather buddy or could be called on to provide similar services in non-emergency situations, contact the Northwest Neighbors Village at 202-237-1895, or via www.nwnv.org.
