Sneak Preview: Broad Branch Stream Tour

May 2, 2014 by FHC

Yes, I know the Broad Branch stream walk is only a couple of days away (Sunday, May 4th at 3 p.m.), but I wanted to see how all the rain impacted the new stream bed. So I explored the area yesterday morning, braving the mud (not too bad) and traversing the stream over the newly strewn rocks and boulders. The farther I got from the construction zone, the more I was wowed by its beauty.

Tour the site of a first-of-its-kind project in DC: To restore a Rock Creek tributary to its former glory. Long piped underground, the Broad Branch stream is being restored as a project of the District Department of the Environment. DDOE’s Steve Saari is the project manager and will be leading the tour.

We will meet on Sunday, May 4th at 3 p.m., at the corner of Linnean Avenue and Broad Branch Road. It might be muddy, so dress accordingly. And bring your binoculars to better see the burgeoning bird life of this new habitat.

Kudos Marlene and Steve Saari (and the DDOE team). This was a great tour and we’re proud to host this project in our neighborhood!
