Thanks For Making Our ANC Candidate Event A Success!

October 23, 2012

by Marlene Berlin

The Methodist Home chef’s gorgeous fruit platter; ANC 3F04 candidate Sally Gresham (left) talks to 3F voters.

Even competing with a beautiful fall day and a Redskins game, we had a great turnout for our ANC candidate meet-and-greet at the Methodist Home on Sunday, October 21st.

The chef for the Methodist Home, Stephan Yombi, outdid himself with an elegant fruit and cheese display for those attending. ANC candidates Sally Gresham (ANC 3F03), David Solorzano Lowell (3F06), and Manolis Printiotakis and Meg Rosan (3F05), and Bob Summersgill (3F07) joined us. Mary Beth Ray (3F03) and Adam Tope (3F01) were unable to attend. Karen Perry for 3F02 did not respond to our invitation.

Because the single member districts for ANC 3F have been reconfigured, many who attended were not sure what district they were in and therefore who their candidate was. If you are unsure please go to RunForANC.com to determine your district. This is particularly important for those residing in ANC 3F05, which has a contested seat. Early, in-person voting has begun (Chevy Chase Community Center is Ward 3’s early voting site), so read up on your ANC candidates. We have posted their statements.

3F07 candidate Bob Summersgill addresses the gathering.

Neighbors talked to the candidates about several neighborhood issues. David Falk mentioned how much he enjoys the sidewalk on Linnean, which was part of the Murch Safe Routes to School Project, and what a difference it has made for his block. Barbara Cline wondered what could be done to spruce up the park across the street from the Methodist Home. Others brought up neighbors who don’t get residential parking permits due to where they live, lack of snow removal from an alley behind the houses abutting Nebraska, moving the bus stop on Connecticut at Nebraska, and made many comments about the Van Ness walk that was held on October 13th. Near the end of the event the owner of Comet Ping Pong, James Alephantis, stopped by with his mother to say hello. The ANC has a role to play in all these issues, including liquor licenses and hours of operation for restaurants.

We have a very promising group of commissioners coming on board. I encourage you to sign up for the Forest Hlills listserv to get announcements about their meetings, and regularly check their website, www.anc3f.us.

We give a special thanks to the Methodist Home for offering their facility and to Michele Coles, who orchestrated the setup of the room for this event.
