The UDC/Van Ness Main Street Farmers Market opens for the season on Saturday, May 4th. It’s returning to the same location (the UDC law school at 4340 Connecticut) during the same times (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

The farmers are returning for another year. The DPW compost collectors are back. And so are the local makers. Some will be familiar. Some are new. They include:

Locals Grow Smart – Microgreens
Morning Portal – Ceramics and Art
dafero – Vegan, paleo, gluten and sugar free foods
The Card Bureau – Greeting cards and novelty gift items
Em & Em Pottery – pottery
Carlos Rosario Intl Public Charter School – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Program pop-up store
Frères Branchiaux Candle Co. – Candles, room sprays, diffusers
AromabyAnette – Handmade bath and body items
Winthrop Clothing Co. – accessories for pets and humans

Many of the Saturday markets will have special entertainment and activities. On opening day, DJ Anthony will spin some tunes. Van Ness Main Street is handing out free shopping bags while supplies last.

From 11 a.m. to noon at the May 11th market, kids can make Mother’s Day cards with artist Cherie Lester. On Saturday, June 8th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., guest chef Jonathan Bardzik will use fresh ingredients from the market to help you plan a Father’s Day menu.

Keep up with new events as they’re added on Van Ness Main Street’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages and at vannessmainstreet.org.
