Photos: A misty walk in Rock Creek Park

December 22, 2016

A gray, drizzly walk in Rock Creek Park ended up being a photographer’s delight.

Last Saturday’s freezing rain kept me from my usual walk, so I was determined to get out on Sunday. My determination was rewarded.

First I was absorbed by the bare tree limbs reaching into a sky textured by colliding grays.

Then I came upon a collage of moss, a nut, and twigs.

Even the puddles left behind by Saturday’s rain seemed transformed. This was in the parking lot by the Rock Creek Park Nature Center.

The bark on trees caught my eye. I am drawn to the abstract patterns of nature.

The best was when a fog settled in. It softened the landscape, and I snapped away.

And as I headed home, my camera captured the ripples in Soapstone Creek as water dripped from a tree.

See the parks on a sunnier but snowier day almost a year ago. These mushrooms mugged for Marlene’s camera in summer 2015.

/thanks for sharing the beauty of Nature with us, Marlene:; it seems to me that I was raking the last of the leaves in my garden that day–I would have much rather been with you instead!

Gorgeous photos and poetic commentary. We are so blessed to have the beauty of Rock Creek Park in our backyard! Thank you Marlene for finding and sharing the beauty and serenity of what most would have written off as a day of miserable weather.

The photos are magnificent, but I also love your words e.g “colliding grays”.

Comforting and soothing at a difficult time for many.
