An effort to make the crosswalks at Connecticut and Cumberland a little friendlier to wheelchair users is set to begin tomorrow.

From Mayor Gray’s Ward 3 liaison:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will commence repair work as part of the Americans with Disability Act Compliance Project at the intersection of Connecticut Ave. and Cumberland St. NW on or about June 19th, 2013.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by July 3rd, 2013, weather and construction permitting. The purpose of the repair work is to ensure members of the disabled community can access bus stops. It will include repair to sidewalks and installing wheelchair ramps.

And there's no ramp on the east side of the intersection.

The Contractor is authorized to work during the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. There will be no work at night.

If deemed necessary, Parking Restriction signs will be posted at least 72 hours in advance, at locations where parking will not be allowed. These signs will advise the dates and duration of “No Parking” and contact information of the Project Engineer.

If residents have any concerns about this project, please have them contact the Project Engineer Mr. Jaswant Matharu at (202) 671-4686.
