Forest Hills Connection is 10 years old this month. We hope you’ll celebrate with us on April 23!

April 6, 2022 by FHC Leave a Comment

It’s Forest Hills Connection’s tenth anniversary and we are excited to celebrate it with you!

In late 2011, Marlene Berlin gathered a group of neighbors together to hatch a plan for an online community center and neighborhood showcase. We built a web site, collected 500 emails for our first monthly newsletter, and in April 2012, we launched Forest Hills Connection.

It’s been our pleasure over these last ten years to serve and better know our community, first as a program of the former Forest Hills Neighborhood Alliance, and since 2021, as a program of Van Ness Main Street. This is not just the ten-year anniversary of our founding. It’s also been a year since our VNMS alliance.

To thank you for supporting us while we told your stories, we’d like to invite you to our anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 23rd (or, if raining heavily, on Sunday, April 24th).

It’s a three-parter, and it begins at the scene of one of our earliest news subjects: the Broad Branch Stream daylighting project.

Anniversary Party, Part 1

At 4 p.m., Steve Saari, who led the daylighting project for the DC Department of the Environment, will lead us on a tour of the site.

We’ll meet just south and east of where Broad Branch Road meets Linnean Avenue. All are welcome, and there is no need to RSVP.

Anniversary Party, Part 2

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Comet Ping Pong has generously offered its tented back parking lot space and is providing free pizza for the party-goers. There will also be a cash bar.

Please register here. Because there is limited space under the tent, registration is required. We encourage you to do so ASAP!

Anniversary Party, Part 3

Finally, at 8:30 p.m., return with Marlene to the Linnean and Broad Branch Streams to eavesdrop on some of her favorite springtime creatures: the frogs. We’ll meet at Fessenden Street and Broad Branch Terrace.

The events are free, with a suggested donation of $20 per household.

Whether you join us for one part of our anniversary party, or all three, we look forward to celebrating with you.
