I’m Eddie Cano sidewalk café gets ANC 3F’s backing

February 25, 2019 by FHC

I’m Eddie Cano, an Italian restaurant, opened its doors across the street from Politics and Prose in fall of last year. The owners are now seeking the city’s approval for a sidewalk café.

One step in the process is getting a permit for use of the sidewalk, a public space. DDOT sent ANC 3F the restaurant’s public space permit application and asked the commission to state whether it had any objection.

At ANC 3F’s February 19th meeting, the commissioners voted 6-0 in favor of the application. Commissioner and Chair David Dickinson signed off on behalf of the ANC, and Commissioner Monika Nemeth signed on behalf of the single member district in which the restaurant is located.

The 502-square-foot sidewalk café is designed to be wheelchair accessible with seating for 27 diners. These are some of the detail drawings from the permit application.

Bravo!!! Following a previous posted comment on the need to enliven our wide Connecticut Avenue streetscape with pedestrians, cafes, etc,, once more I would like to fully support Edie Cano’s proposal to provide an outdoor side walk cafe. The awning will provide shade and protection from a light rain. I would also encourage them to install a few gas flame heaters so that the outdoor cafe sitting can be further extended into the Spring and Fall months. As neighbors we will truly enjoy such possibilities..
