New trees are equipped with green watering bags in the first year. Fill the bags, and they slowly release the water.
Summer, officially, is still a couple of months away. Summer temperatures, on the other hand, will be here soon. Hot and dry are not a good combination for young trees, especially street trees. So it’s time to get into the habit of giving them some extra care.
Casey Trees, from April through October, sends weekly watering alerts to those who sign up for its newsletter, or sign its watering pledge.
Young trees are those that were planted three or fewer years ago. Casey’s alerts page provides a watering FAQ with a guide to different watering methods and proper mulching.
And if a new street tree has been planted within reach of your hose, it is going to need your help, too. This interactive map of urban street trees, from DDOT’s Urban Forestry Division, marks the young ones in need of watering in green.
