Have you looked at our community events calendar lately?

Our neighbor Andrea Gudeon has volunteered to help us keep our calendar up-to-date. (Thank you, Andrea!) Under her care, it’s revealing a lot of activity in our corner of DC. And a lot of music. So much music.

That’s thanks in large part to the arts focus of Van Ness Main Street. It is promoting a monthly program of jazz performances at Van Ness restaurants. The next Jazz@VN on Thursday, September 29th, will be hosted by Tesoro from 5 to 7 p.m. with musicians from Levine Music.

Van Ness is also one of the DC Main Streets taking part in the September 24th Art All Night: Made in DC festivities. For the first time there will be A packed schedule includes musicians outside Park Van Ness, jazz at Acacia Bistro in partnership with UDC’s JAZZAlive, and a dance party at the Calvert Woodley parking lot. It’s family-friendly and it’s free.

Hear more jazz for free at UDC’s JAZZAlive concerts. The next one, featuring Allyn Johnson, is Tuesday, September 20th.

If classical music is more your thing, the UDC Theater of the Arts is where you’ll want to be. Vocal Arts of DC, Washington Performing Arts and the Young Artists Concert Series are bringing 26 performances to the theater. Step Afrika’s “Migration,” based on Jacob Lawrence’s series of paintings, kicks off these performances on September 30th and October 1st. Single tickets are now on sale.

Events at Hillwood Museum add to the musical collage of the ‘hood. And Heritage Day at Peirce Mill on October 8th will feature musicians along with many other activities for the whole family.

Restaurants are also booking musical acts. Terasol and Comet feature weekly live music – and on Fridays, new shows for kids.

Keep track of all these happenings right here on our events calendar. Do you have an event to add? Please tell us about it.
