WAMU will be on the move in May. Destination: Forest Hills.
During the January ANC 3F meeting at the Methodist Home, American University’s director of community relations, Andrew Huff, gave a presentation about the timeline of WAMU’s move to 4401 Connecticut Avenue, and the planned changes to the facility. Below is some of the information from his PowerPoint presentation, including artist’s renderings of the new exterior and interior spaces, and a streetscape plan that includes new planters, benches, a bicycle facility, and a new tree box area. You can download the entire PowerPoint file here.

This will be a revitalizing change to the neighborhood. I would like to see more vitality to the Forest Hills Connecticut Avenue area as it once had when I moved here in December 1963

AU and WAMU merit praise and appreciation for this exciting media project, with street scape enhancement and environmental sensitivity. What an ideal venue for exemplary use of sidewalk public space. AU now proposes to expand tree-box space, improve raised planters, and add benches. Responding to ANC Commisser Sally Gresham, AU said it would examine with DC officials whether it would make sense also to install pervious sidewalk (to let rain water soak down into the ground) and some rain garden features. Let’s hope DDOT and Office of Planning give AU their best ideas to realize this splendid project’s full potential.
